The Duke Speech and Drama Team competes on a state and national level. We have placed on the state level and attended the state finals several years. We end our year with a spring theatrical production. This is an experience for everyone involved: the students learn to do basic carpentry, marketing, costume design, set design, basic theatrical makeup, and sound and lighting techniques. Our program helps develop communication skills in each student that will prepare them for the competitive market they will enter as young adults. Confidence in speaking and learning the correct methods of formal presentations are also developed in our program. We have successfully grown our program to include over forty members.
